Connecting La Fortuna with Monteverde is a classic of the Costa Rican itinerary. By road the private trip takes about 3 hours skirting Lake Arenal, with volcano views for much of the way.

The route

We leave La Fortuna around Lake Arenal, the largest reservoir in the country. The route offers spectacular viewpoints before climbing to the Monteverde area. There is also a "jeep-boat-jeep" option that crosses the lake by boat, but the private overland transfer is more comfortable with luggage and for families.
