Costa Rica can be visited year-round, but each season has advantages. Knowing the climate by region helps you choose the best dates.
Dry season (December to April)
This is high season: clear skies, ideal for beach and outdoor activities. Prices rise and there are more visitors, especially December-January and Easter week.
Green season (May to November)
Rain, mostly in the afternoon, lush landscapes, fewer people and better prices. Mornings are usually clear. September-October are the wettest on the Pacific, but the Caribbean is often sunnier.
Regional differences
The southern Caribbean has its own pattern: it is often drier in September-October. Guanacaste is the driest region in the country. The Monteverde and Arenal area is more humid due to its forest nature.
When to go based on your interests?
For guaranteed beach and sun: dry season. For lush nature, fewer people and savings: green season. For whale watching in the southern Pacific: July to October.
